A Jefferson parent has publicly alleged that Newsome football players repeatedly directed racial slurs toward Jefferson students during the game, including an allegation that her son was called the N-word while standing on the sideline.
The parent also raised concerns regarding the treatment of Jefferson’s cheerleading squad and band during the event.
In response, Teaching for the Culture sent correspondence to the Hillsborough County School Board and Superintendent Van Ayres requesting a transparent, documented investigation into the allegations.
Our request cited HCPS Policies 5517, 5517.01, and 5517.02, which address harassment, bullying, racial harassment, and the district’s investigative process.
TFTC has asked the district to determine what occurred, whether school personnel were aware of the alleged conduct, how any complaints were handled, and what corrective action may be appropriate if the allegations are substantiated.
The parent was included in the correspondence so district officials may communicate with her directly regarding the complaint and investigative process.
Teaching for the Culture will provide updates as additional information or documentation becomes available.
